A sentencing hearing for a Cincinnati resident who admitted to stealing more than $2,000 from Old Navy has been continued and a warrant issued to bring him to Fayette County.

In addition to the order continuing sentencing in the matter, an order was filed in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas last week to bring Jeffrey Briggs, Jr. from the Warren County Jail, where he is currently incarcerated on charges of theft and criminal trespass.

The 27-year-old will be in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas March 13 to receive sentencing after he admitted to shoplifting and plead guilty in December to theft, a fifth-degree felony.

Briggs was seen on surveillance video May 28, 2016 filmed from inside the Old Navy store. The Old Navy store is located at the Tanger Outlet Mall in Jeffersonville.

A loss prevention officer working for stores in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana was at the Jeffersonville location that day and identified Briggs. The loss prevention officer said he was familiar with Briggs because Briggs was a shoplifter in previous incidents at the Cincinnati Premium Outlets in Monroe.

A records check showed that Briggs was involved in a shoplifting incident in 2014 at the Cincinnati Premium Outlets where he stole $1,111.27 in merchandise from Lacoste, Gap and Claire’s. At the same location in 2015 he stole from eight stores totalling $2,793.41.

At the Jeffersonville Tanger Outlet Mall, the total amount of merchandise that was stolen May 28 was $2,288.06

Sentencing is set for 9:30 a.m. March 13. The maximum penalty that he could receive on the charge is a one-year prison term and a fine of $2,500.
