A man who sold heroin in the Dollar General parking lot was sentenced Monday to one year in prison.

Jason R. Cupp, of 728 W. Elm St., plead no contest to trafficking in heroin, a fourth-degree felony, during a plea hearing March 20.

The 37-year-old was found guilty by the court for trafficking in heroin after a lengthy investigation was conducted by the U.S. 23 Pipeline Major Crimes Task Force and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. He received his stated prison sentence in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas April 3.

On Sept. 27, 2016, an undercover officer and a confidential informant negotiated a deal with a suspected drug dealer to purchase $50 worth of heroin in Washington Court House, reports said.

While waiting in the Dollar General parking lot in Washington Court House, the original contact for the heroin deal did not show up. As they sat waiting in their silver Malibu for someone else to show up with the heroin, a second silver Malibu pulled into the parking lot. This person said they were also waiting to purchase heroin. Finally, a third silver Malibu pulled into the parking lot, one driven by Cupp. Cupp sold heroin to the people in the parking lot and was paid by the confidential informant with pre-recorded money.

Cupp was given two days of credit towards the one-year sentence for days already served on the charge and was conveyed to the Correctional Reception Center to commence his sentencing. According to court records, Cupp plead guilty to possession of crack cocaine in 2004 and plead guilty in another case for trafficking marijuana in 2004.

Cupp was a part of a wider heroin trafficking network uncovered by the U.S. 23 Pipeline Major Crimes Task Force and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office last year.

Cupp received a sentence April 3 in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas.
