A 47-year-old Washington C.H. man died Thursday evening from the injuries he suffered in a two-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle on Columbus Avenue.

At approximately 5:13 p.m., Gary West was riding his Harley-Davidson cycle eastbound on Columbus Avenue at the same time a Chevrolet Impala, driven by Pamela Hammons of Hillsboro, was heading westbound on Columbus, according to Washington C.H. Police.

Hammons reportedly began to make a left turn into the Dollar General store, but failed to observe the eastbound motorcycle. The motorcycle crashed into the passenger side of the Impala, according to police.

“The rate of speed the cycle was traveling has not yet been determined,” said WPD Chief Brian Hottinger. “The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reconstruction unit will make that determination once they reconstruct the accident.”

West was transported from the accident scene by ambulance to Fayette County Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by Fayette County Coroner Dr. Dennis Mesker.

“All charges are pending until the investigation is completed,” said Hottinger.
