Because financial barriers are often cited as the reason many nurses are unable to pursue additional education, Nurturing the Nursing Profession Scholarships (NNPS), a non-profit organization, has made it its mission to alleviate this challenge for area nursing students.

At the fourth-annual NNPS Golf Outing, held June 15 at York Golf Club in Columbus and sponsored by Cardinal Health and Rosati Windows, six central Ohio nursing students were awarded scholarships to support their education and aid them in achieving their professional goals. One of those students is Alicia Moody of Washington Court House.

Alicia has shared that she believes nurses know how to look into the depths of a patient and make that person aware of every bit of strength they have. One of her goals includes being the nurse who places pink boxing gloves on the little girl who is finishing her last rounds of chemotherapy. Faculty members at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing where Alicia attends, describe her as “a bright and shining star among the students.”

While pursuing her BSN, she tutors students from surrounding communities, volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House and fundraises for the Children’s Miracle Network. Alicia maintains a 4.0 GPA.

Through events such as the golf outing, NNPS is better able to fulfill its mission of empowering, inspiring and supporting the education of current and future nurses.
