According to unofficial results from the Fayette County Board of Elections, incumbents Donald L. Fleak and Virgil Jones Jr. will continue to serve the Bloomingburg Village Council.

The unofficial results counted 299 ballots cast for the race. Out of the 299, 117, or 39.13 percent, voted for Fleak and 87, or 27.76 percent, voted for Jones. Those two were elected out of a group of four that included Mike Baker and J. David Scurlock. Baker received 61 votes and Scurlock received 38, according to unofficial results.

“I feel like it’s an honor for them to choose me to continue working for them,” Fleak said. “I would like to work on getting some grant money for the village. There are a few smaller issues that the village needs to update. The park and streets could use some work. Getting grant money would be the best way to get all of the issues fixed. I thank the voters for their votes. It is really an honor to see they want me to keep working for the village.”

Current village council president Fleak runs a family-owned farm drainage business where he serves Fayette and surrounding counties. Besides three years of his life when he lived in Cincinnati, Fleak has lived in Bloomingburg. He will begin his ninth year working for the village after this election.

“It was great to achieve this and I want to thank everyone for the support,” Jones said. “One of my biggest goals is to work at the ball field and park. I would like to get some improvements made and some playground equipment in. I just really appreciate the support and I am glad to get the position. Hopefully I can get some changes made and keep it.”

Jones, who filled in an empty seat about four to five months ago, moved to Bloomingburg in 2005 to become president of the local fire department. He said he is hoping to clean up the village.
