The Fayette County Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed a county native and her business, 9Round, into the chamber.

9Round is a 30-minute kickboxing workout, set up in a convenient circuit format with a new round starting every three minutes. No experience is needed, and this is a workout for any level of fitness. The workout changes daily and a motivating trainer is there to help every step of the way. The best part is, the first workout is free.

The owner, Sammie Stroker, is a third generation independent business owner. Her grandparents, Steve and Vickie Horney own and operate Horney’s Barbecue in Washington Court House, and her parents Jim and Stephanie Stroker own SpinTech Tools, representing Neidlein products who manufacture work holding devices for clients across North America. She was working as a trainer for D1 Sports Training and Therapy in Columbus when her father introduced her to 9Round.

“I immediately fell in love,” Stroker said. “I loved the concept and how it was a workout for any level of fitness. I enjoyed Columbus but there was always a part of me that wanted to be back home in Washington Court House with my friends and family. My parents have helped me and supported me every step of the way and I am so blessed to have them by my side. I also have an amazing staff of trainers. They really bring the energy and are great at encouraging and helping the members. I appreciate all of the members that have joined 9Round Washington Court House so far. My trainers and I look forward to helping everyone reach their physical fitness goals 9Rounds at a time! If you haven’t been in for your first free workout at 9Round, I encourage you to come in and try it out.”

9Round officially opened in Washington Court House on Nov. 19. No stranger to physical fitness, Stroker ran cross country and track during her time at Miami Trace and qualified for the state four different times while in high school. Upon graduation in 2010, she received a scholarship to run cross country and track for Marshall University in Huntington, W. Va. While there she had the chance to compete at many Conference USA Championship meets as well as NCAA Regional meets. Stroker graduated from Marshall University in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology-strength and conditioning.

Stroker says her goal for 9Round is to create what she experienced while running. “Not only was I part of a team, but it was a family,” she said. “I always had someone there to motivate and push me to reach my goals. I really want to help chamber people’s lives and break down that wall of intimidation that some may have when it comes to fitness.”

The facility is open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 8 p.m., Fridays until 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon. For more information on 9Round, visit them at 153 South Main St. or call (740) 620-4189.
