A 33-year-old Washington C.H. man has been sentenced to serve three years in prison for committing a robbery at the local Walmart.

On Dec. 22 in Fayette County Common Pleas Court, Jason A. Kidder, of 1524 Washington Ave., pleaded guilty to second-degree felony robbery as part of an agreement with the Fayette County Prosecutor’s Office. Judge Steven Beathard sentenced him to three years in prison.

On Oct. 7, Washington C.H. Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at Walmart, 1397 Leesburg Ave. in Washington C.H., and were advised by employees that a man later identified as Kidder had taken items and attempted to exit the store without paying. According to reports, when loss prevention employees attempted to stop the offender, he displayed a pocket knife and ran outside, jumped a fence and went toward the apartment area.

One officer approached Wagner Court Apartments and another officer approached the Quail Run area in an attempt to find the suspect. On Wagner Way, one officer saw the man running eastbound near the trash dumpster, reports said. The officer pursued him in his cruiser into the field and tree line near Dice Drive.

Once the trees made it impossible to drive any further, the officer got out of the cruiser and ordered the suspect to get on his knees, according to reports. The suspect responded to commands.

The officer removed his weapon from its holster and ordered the man to drop the knife and place his hands on top of his head. Kidder complied and was taken into custody.
