Dale Lynch was elected as the newest chairperson of the Washington C.H. City Council and Leah Foster was elected as vice chair during Wednesday’s re-organizational meeting.

“We need to do a lot of new and different things this year and I think we’re all looking at that,” said Lynch, following his election as chairperson. “I think it is important for us as members of council to do some goal setting and I would even like the department heads to do some goal setting.”

Lynch also spoke about making some improvements in getting information out to the community. He recommended that City Manager Joe Denen and members of council write articles periodically for the Record-Herald and the city’s website. “This would really help us to focus on what’s important,” he said. “At next week’s meeting, we can set a date for a work session focused on goal setting.”

Lynch was nominated by council member Jim Chrisman for chair and he was the only one nominated. He won the election unanimously.

Chrisman was nominated for vice chair by council member Ted Hawk and Foster was nominated by Kim Bonnell. Foster won by a 4-3 vote.

Fresh faces were also welcomed at the re-organizational meeting on Wednesday. Trent Dye and Kendra Redd-Hernandez, who were elected to council at the November 2015 general election, joined Lynch, Foster, Chrisman, Hawk and Bonnell.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the city building.
