POW Camp presentation set for April 13 at SSCC Wilmington

A history of Wilmington’s World War II Prisoner of War (POW) Camp will be presented 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, in the library of Southern State Community College’s North Campus, 1870 Davids Drive, Wilmington.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be presented by Kay Fisher, Director of the Clinton County Historical Society, who will discuss the camp, its prisoners, and the effect on the local community.

A coordinating display with photos and additional information will be available for viewing April 11-15 during the library’s regular hours of 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. The display includes a letter from a German prisoner expressing appreciation toward his “hosts.”
