Shoppers flock to Pat Catan’s

The Fayette County Chamber of Commerce was on hand Friday to help Pat Catan’s with its official ribbon cutting at the new location, 300 Washington Square in Washington C.H.

Manager Brett Joseph and staff welcomed shoppers, Chamber ambassadors and city officials to the morning event and shared the history of the Pat Catan’s company. A former Air Force pilot, Pat Catanzarite – better known as Pat Catan’s – opened his first store, which was only 600 square feet, in 1954 in Cleveland. Today there are 31 Pat Catan’s Arts and Crafts stores serving Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Indiana.

The local store carries craft supplies, home décor, candles, party supplies, ready-to-wear fashion items, holiday and seasonal supplies and more. If the Friends and Family shopping event was any indication, the store will be a success in Fayette County, as it broke records set by other stores. The Washington Court House store now holds the record for the most sales on a Friends and Family opening in the 62-year history of the company. Joseph and his staff are determined to continue to break company records at the Washington Square location.

Grand opening festivities will continue into the weekend. Shoppers are invited to the kids’ craft day today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. where there will be face painting, prize wheels, and the Washington Fire Department will have a truck on display in the parking lot. Additionally, the kids can make a craft and take it home for free.

“We have our prize wheels up that people can come in and spin to win prizes as well as enter a chance to win a $150 gift certificate,” Joseph said during an interview Friday. “The story I told to the people (Friday morning) was about the fact that we broke the record of the company for the best Friends and Family shopping event. Originally, the store who held the record had doubled the sales on that day than almost every other store. Now, when a new store is going to be opened up, they will see that other store which had earned twice the rest of the company and above them will be the Washington Court House location, and hopefully they will be as I was and want to beat that number. We will be, in the coming months, trying to connect with locals to get classes signed-up for a number of crafts. The company also supports and encourages us to do the same with our community. So we will be making donations to the local schools and other organizations as we continue to become integrated with the community. I want to encourage anyone and everybody to come out and check around the store.”

Store hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information about Pat Catan’s, visit www.patcatans.com or call (740) 335-3516
