A 46-year-old Greenfield man was sentenced to 15 months in prison Monday after he plead guilty to one count of possession of cocaine, one count of aggravated possession of drugs, and one count of domestic violence.

Randy L. Ruth was indicted Nov. 20, 2015 by a Fayette County grand jury after probation officers found him to be in possession of a spoon and a loaded syringe.

According to police records, Ruth was at Second Chance Learning Center on Oakland Avenue in Washington C.H. Nov. 17, 2015 and had become unresponsive. Second Chance Learning Center personnel contacted probation officers, who located a loaded syringe wrapped in a paper towel around Ruth’s right ankle.

Ruth was arrested by Washington C.H. police for the possession and probation violation and was taken to the Fayette County Jail. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation identified the brown liquid in the syringe located on Ruth to be a mixture of cocaine and Fentanyl.

Ruth was indicted by a Fayette County grand jury May 6 for domestic violence for causing or attempting to cause harm to a family member. He had previously admitted to domestic violence in 1995.

Ruth was sentenced to a six-month prison term for possession of cocaine and aggravated possession of drugs and a nine-month prison term for domestic violence, as well as a mandatory three years of post-release control.

Ruth apologized Monday in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas and said, “I was taking medication and got into street drugs … I apologize for my actions and hope you can see I’ve changed.”

Ruth was credited with 15 days jail time served at the Fayette County Jail.
