On Wednesday morning, a Washington C.H. man was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to gross sexual imposition.

Kevin Byrd, 48, of 812 Delaware St., was indicted in May for one count of GSI, a felony of the third degree. The indictment states that between the dates of Nov. 24, 2008 and Nov. 23, 2009, Byrd had sexual contact with a minor less than 13 years of age.

According to the Washington C.H. Police Department, the victim came forward in April of this year and reported an incident of sexual abuse. She told police that about six years ago at a Washington C.H. residence, Byrd made sexual contact with her, reports said.

Police said that Byrd admitted to the crime.

Under the Ohio Revised Code, Byrd is required to register as a Tier II sex offender.

A Tier II sex offender is defined by the Ohio Revised Code as a sex offender other than a Tier III sex offender whose offense is punishable by imprisonment for more than one year and whose actions include a minor and are comparable to either sex trafficking, coercion and enticement, transportation with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, or abusive sexual contact, and involves the use of a minor in a sexual performance, solicitation of a minor to practice prostitution, the production or distribution of child pornography, or occurs after the offender becomes a Tier I sex offender.

Byrd was awarded two days jail-time credit for his time spent in the Fayette County Jail and is subject to a mandatory five year period of supervision by the Adult Parole Authority after his release from prison.

Fayette County Common Pleas Court Judge Steven Beathard ordered Byrd to pay the costs of prosecution.
