Fayette County Fair set to begin

The 2015 Fayette County Fair is about to arrive.

On Sunday, a celebration ceremony at the McDonald’s Grandstand will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the event is open to the community. During the celebration, this year’s fair queen will be announced out of the four candidates: Abbie Noble, Emily Daniels, Taylor Kirkpatrick and Alyssa Backenstoe. Additionally, various extension educators and others will be introduced and will speak to the crowd about the fair. The community is welcome to join the celebration as the fair begins.

Beginning on Monday a plethora of shows and attractions will be available for the community to enjoy. At 7:30 a.m. the market hog weigh-in at the swine arena will take place. At 8 a.m., the market beef/feeder weigh-in at the steer barn will begin, and at 10 a.m. market lamb projects will weigh-in followed by market goat weigh-ins at the sheep barn.

The first shows will be at 8:30 a.m. as the junior fair rabbit participants begin their showmanship at the small animal arena and junior fair dog projects will compete in the showmanship and obedience at the activity tent. At 2:30 p.m. the annual 4-H Nutrition Bowl contest will be held at the school house, then at 5 p.m. the poultry showmanship, using a fake bird, will be held at the small animal arena. Finally to finish up 4-H events, at 7 p.m. the 4-H style revue at the activity tent will be held.

The Ferris wheel will not be making an appearance at the 2015 fair due to damage of the ride in transition. The Ferris wheel will be replaced though with three other rides to entertain the masses. The Vertigo, Ring of Fire and Gravitron have all been slated to take the place of the Ferris wheel, and the fair’s ride company, Amusements of America, said a new Ferris wheel will return in 2016 that should be bigger and better. Daily after 1 p.m., rides from Amusements of America, as well as the Jungle Island Zoo Exotic Encounters, will be available for patrons to enjoy.

Other attractions include the Guys and Gals Lead at the sales arena at 5:30 p.m., the beautiful orchestra sounds of the Cincinnati Pops performing a variety of pieces at the McDonald’s Grandstand at 8 p.m., and finishing up Monday, Country Express will play for the fair-goers at the sound stage from 8 until 10:30 p.m.
