In its fifth month of active investigation, new information was released Friday surrounding Ohio’s largest murder crime scene in history.
Mike DeWine, Ohio Attorney General, and Charles Reader, Pike County Sheriff, voluntarily released versions of preliminary and final autopsy reports that were prepared by the Hamilton County Coroner. The released documents redact most details, including information that was previously shared with news media.
The victims of execution-style killings, eight members of the Rhoden family were found massacred in their Pike County homes April 22.
Toxicology reports and descriptions of the gunshot wounds, and how many each victim received, were redacted in the release documents. This contradicts previous press statements from law enforcement officials that described how many gunshot wounds each family member received.
Although a suspect has not been named in the killings, DeWine said they are looking at more than one killer and that they were familiar with the Rhoden family.
The information in the released autopsy reports has been redacted as Confidential Law Enforcement Investigative Records pursuant to Ohio Revised Code (ORC) 313.10(A)(2)(e) and ORC 149.43(A)(1)(h) to balance the current needs of the active investigation with transparency of the law enforcement process, according to the press release.
