Emily Daniels was announced as the 2014 Overall Turkey Showman Monday evening at the Fayette County Junior Fair Poultry Showmanship Show.

Even though there are not as many turkey projects in 4-H, the competition was just as strong as usual. Daniels said she was very happy to win after the original show turkey she brought had a stroke. She used a replacement bird for the competition, a much more aggressive turkey named “Denny.”

Denny pulled through for Daniels despite having not been trained with a hog whip like her original turkey “Cartman.” He responded well to the coaxing and Daniels was able to take the top prize.

“I am really excited,” Daniels said. “This is my second time in it and I have won the show before. I am looking forward to showing the goats and chickens, but not the hogs, they are frightening!”

Daniels will participate in the Showman of Showmen competition on Saturday at the Sales Arena.
