Getting Ahead: Instructions apply to real life, too

0

I remember years ago when our children were toddlers and my wife, Glenda, brought home a swing set. The swing set was in a box and needed to be assembled. I was a contractor by trade and had experience in building commercial, agricultural and residential buildings.

This swing set was no challenge for me, or so I thought. I tore the box open and started on what I thought would be a 10 minute job.

The problem was that I did not take time to look at the instructions. I would put parts together and end up taking them apart because I used the wrong parts, bolts or screws. I kept on with the task at hand by putting parts together and tearing them apart again but I still never looked at the instructions. Keep in mind that this was over 30 years ago when swing sets had only two or three swings and a slide. Over two hours later, I was hooking up the chains on the cross bar.

Most of you reading this can relate because you have done the same thing. As I have gotten older I realize that I can lay out the parts and read the instructions and it will save me a lot of time and heartache. Do you think instructions exist on how to put our life together that would save us time and heartache?

These and other life questions will be addressed Sunday morning as “The Gathering Place Family” meets in the Washington High School Gymnasium at 10 a.m.. for our pre-service connection where we enjoy coffee, juice and donuts.

Our worship service and children’s church then begins at 10:30. Come at 7 p.m. and be part of our Wednesday night Bible study and children’s ministry on the third floor above Trends at 120 West Court Street.

Check us out on Facebook at: “The Gathering Place.”
