God put a rainbow in the sky

They desire a better country…wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God. Hebrews 11:16

I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a token of a covenant between me and the earth. Gen. 9:13

PERSONAL ILLUSTRATION:

Several years ago while I was driving a school bus down a country road just outside of my hometown, I was awestruck to see off to my left the most beautiful rainbow I had ever seen in my life. All seven colors of this rainbow were in high definition. I was so impressed by this visual revelation of God’s promise to Noah that I stopped the bus so that myself and the students on board the bus could savior this unusual moment.

I remember as a child we were told at the end of the rainbow there was “a pot of Gold” waiting for those if they found it before the rainbow evaporated in the warm sunlight.

I never found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I have learned since that God is at the end of His rainbow and that is much better than a million pots of gold.

WHAT IS A RAINBOW? It is the result of sunlight shining on drops of falling water. Yes, that is the physical explanation of it——-but it is more! The rainbow is a shining arc of promise hung high in the sky to inspire God’s people in their quest for a “better country.” Yes! It is God’s banner, not of defeat, but of victory.

THE RAINBOW rightly interpreted, symbolizes the true nature of God and His right relationship to man. Too often as we witness the forces of nature and of human nature we are led to believe that God is primarily a God of wrath. When we think of volcanoes, earthquakes, floods and pestilence it is no wonder that so many often believe that in some of nature’s great manifestations that God is angry.

WHEN WE LOOK upon the hardness of the human heart and see the things in human nature that are dark, when we see the uncontrolled passions and appetites, and when we witness the evil as it destroys the gardens of God and wounds and kills our fellow men by the millions through all the earth, we come to the conclusion that God is angry with man.

THE REAL TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS; throughout human history we see the footprints of God walking with His children through the valley of the shadow of death, through the Red sea of deliverance, and the fiery furnace of affliction.

GOD PUT A RAINBOW IN THE SKY to remind us that we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us; that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

ILLUSTRATION:

“They died that the desert might bloom.” This is the significant sentence that describes the building of the Boulder Dam, in which 89 people lost their lives. Three basic qualities were needed to complete the building of the dam. 1). Intelligent planning. 2). Hard work. 3). worthy sacrifice. The result is that desert now blossoms like a rose.

GOD PUT A RAINBOW IN THE SKY to remind us that He planned before the foundation of the world to save us should we go astray. Jesus came to do the hard work of redeeming love, and gave himself as a worthy sacrifice for our sins. The result is that when we receive Him as Savior and Lord our lives blossom as a rose. Let all the redeemed people of God say Amen and praise God for the plan, the work of redemption, and the greatest sacrifice the world has ever known.
