Getting Ahead: Making a way

As most of you know, I grew up on a farm. We plowed the ground and planted the seed, when the seed came up we had to continue to plow the ground to get rid of the weeds. This continued until the crops were ready for harvest.

When the crops were ready for harvest, we once again went into the fields and harvested it. We would then have to shovel the crops into the grain bins. The grain would remain in the bins until such a time that we would shovel it out and feed it to the livestock. The livestock would eat the grain and we would then have to clean the stalls.

This whole process was actually done twice because there was also hay that had to be planted, baled, put up and fed to the livestock. Finally after weeks of feeding and cleaning the stalls, we would butcher the livestock, package the meat and put it in our freezer. When it was time for our Sunday dinner, Mom would take the meat from the freezer and prepare it for us. We would give thanks for the meal that the Lord had given us and then we would eat. Our effort had paid off and we were enjoying the fruit of our labor.

This is a perfect example of the law of sowing and reaping. You will receive in direct proportion from what you have put in. It is a simple fact of life that many people do not understand, is this a new idea? Where do these facts of life originate? Can everyone benefit from knowing them?

These and other life questions will be addressed Sunday morning as “The Gathering Place Family” meets in the Washington High School Gymnasium at 10 a.m. for our Pre-Service Connection where we enjoy coffee, juice and donuts. Our Worship Service and Children’s Church then begins at 10:30. Come at 7 p.m. and be part of our Wednesday night Bible Study and Children’s Ministry on the third floor above Trends at 120 West Court St. in Washington C.H.
