The Grace Church United Methodist Women (UMW) of Washington Court House met at the Commission on Aging at 11:30 a.m. for lunch with a business meeting that followed, presided over by president, Karen Bernard.

The executive committee had met at 10:30 a.m. that day for a business meeting.

Susan Jenks opened the meeting with a devotion and World Thank Offering was collected. Ms. Jenks used Ephesians 1:9-13 as the scripture for the devotion called “Missions from around the world, what they are doing and how they are serving those in need by providing food, emotional support, and education.”

She also updated us about the mission work that our church supports in our own community; for example—The Well (summer Kid’s Café); weekly neighborhood summer program in Bloomingburg, Jeffersonville, and WCH, serving food with play and sharing; Belle Aire in-school study program; Baskets of Love & Loads of Love; Lenten Luncheons; vacation Bible school each summer; and yearly youth mission trips. She used Psalm 67 as her closing litany.

The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were presented and unanimously approved.

Norma Wilson and Ann Blake were honored for their many years of UMW service with a pin and certificate. A donation to the UMW National office was sent in their honor.

President Bernard presented announcements and reminders, which included sign-up to work at The Well on Mondays at 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Tuesdays/Thursdays at 8:45 to 11 a.m. The fall annual UMW meeting will be Oct. 1 at 9 a.m. to lunch at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church. UMW will be serving the Habitat for Humanity dinner on Oct. 15 at our church. Need is four cooks and four cleanup helpers.

Pat Gall brought 17 new books to be placed in the Christian Resource Center in our church that she has purchased for the UMW yearly reading program. Cost this year for the books was $200. She gave certificates to those UMW members that read a significant numbers of books.

President Bernard stated that Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m., free breakfasts are continuing at our church. UMW is responsible for the third Sunday of each month. Lunch & Chat will be Oct. 5. No place was decided on to meet and lunch and no one volunteered to plan this. The November UMW meeting was changed to the 16th due to scheduling conflicts. This is the annual memorial service meeting with lunch provided by the officers and will be held in the Grace church fellowship hall at 11:30 a.m.

Deborah, Faith, and Rebecca Circle reports were given. All have been busy throughout the summer with funeral meals, cooking other meals, and breakfast team on Sunday mornings.

President Bernard reported that a total of 16 people have been trained in Safe Food Handlers Training. The Grace church board has approved the purchase of a new ice machine for the Grace kitchen. This will be a great addition to the kitchen. She thanked everyone for all of the work they do for UMW and our church.

The meeting was adjourned.
