Community Action assumes ownership of Rock-A-Bye

The Fayette County Community Action Commission (CAC) recently announced the official ownership and operation of Rock-A-Bye Early Learning Center.

The CAC got its day care license a year ago and spent months hiring and training new staff. The facility was also updated with new toys, furniture and playground equipment. Rock-A-Bye still accepts payments for the child care subsidy and is the site for the Early Head Start – Child Care Partnership Program (EHS-CCP). Children eligible for that program will receive Head Start services as well as child care.

“Rock-A-Bye has a long history in Fayette County. When I started working for United Way 14 years ago, they were in the same location they are now, providing services to the public,” Chamber president Whitney Gentry said. “In order to better serve the clients and provide a more structured learning environment for the children, they moved under Community Action’s umbrella and changed their name to Rock-A-Bye Early Learning Center. Community Action received an early Head Start childhood partnership grant for Fayette, Clinton and Highland counties to serve early Head Start eligible children who are enrolled in childcare centers. It means the centers get extra money to have better trained staff, a curriculum for the children, structured learning and the aforementioned facility upgrades. Ultimately this will mean the children will be more prepared and hopefully more successful in school when it’s time to enroll.”

“We are excited about the positive changes happening at Rock-A-Bye Early Learning Center,” Teresa Borden, EHS-CCP Director said. “This opens many opportunities for children and families of Fayette County.”

Cathy Crowe, the new administrator for the facility, brings early childhood care and Head Start experience with her and has a new staff, with similar experiences. The facility is now enrolling children from ages 6 weeks through 5 years of age.
