6 players, 1 coach honored by AP

Six local players and one local coach have been honored by the Associated Press sportswriters in the Southeast District for their excellence in basketball during the 2016-17 season.

Four players from Miami Trace High School and two from Washington High School have received All-Southeast District honors.

Miami Trace head coach Ben Ackley has been named the Division II Coach of the Year for the 2016-17 season.

Ackley led the Lady Panthers to back-to-back SCOL championships, including this year’s final-ever SCOL title with a record of 13-1. Miami Trace went 18-4 during the season.

The Lady Panthers are now 23-4 as they prepare for the Regional championship game against Dresden Tri-Valley Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Zanesville High School.

Two Miami Trace juniors, Tanner Bryant and Victoria Fliehman, have been named First Team, All-SE District.

Bryant led Miami Trace, averaging 14.8 points per game. She also averaged 7.5 rebounds per game, 3.5 assists per game and 2.5 steals per game.

Bryant is an 80 percent free throw shooter. She averaged 44 percent from the floor and 27 percent from behind the three-point line.

Fliehman averaged 13 points per game, to go along with 7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2 steals per game.

Fliehman shot 82 percent from the free throw line, 43 percent from the floor and 36 percent from three-point range.

For the Washington Lady Blue Lions (6-8 in the SCOL, 11-11 overall), sophomore Hannah Haithcock was named Second Team, All-SE District.

Haithcock scored 409 points for Washington this season. She averaged 17.8 points per game. Haithcock had 201 rebounds this season for an average of 8.7 per game.

She averaged 2 steals and 1.7 assists per game. Haithcock shot 46 percent from the floor, 28 percent from three-point range and 70 percent from the free throw line.

Three local players were accorded Special Mention, All-SE District recognition.

From Washington High School, freshman Rayana Burns was named Special Mention, All-SE District.

Burns averaged 8.2 points, 3.9 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. She shot 39 percent from the field, 40 percent from behind the three-point line and 46 percent from the free throw line.

From Miami Trace senior Hanna Reisinger and sophomore Cassidy Lovett were named Special Mention, All-SE District.

Reisinger averaged 8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals per game. She shot 32 percent from three-point range and 73 percent from the free throw line.

Lovett averaged 6.8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 4.5 steals per game. She shot 30 percent from behind the three-point line and 68 percent from the foul line.
