The Washington Lady Blue Lion tennis team competed in the Logan Elm Invitational, Saturday, Aug. 15.

Circleville, Wheelersburgh, Logan Elm, and Washington were the competing teams in the quad-match.

Washington finished second to Logan Elm, who won the event.

Freshman Megan Downing was runner-up at first singles.

She defeated Jinal Patel of Circleville, 8-3 and lost to Jessica Willard of Logan Elm in the championship match, 0-8.

Maria Pickerill, a sophomore, placed third at second singles.

Pickerill lost in the first match to Tiffany Smolinski of Logan Elm, 2-8.

She later defeated Alexis Vaughn of Wheelersburg, 8-2

Freshman Jen Richards worked hard at her first time at third singles, according to head coach Mitch Augenstein, placing fourth.

Richards lost 2-8 to Emily Miller of Circleville and 0-8 to Megan Myers of Wheelersburg.

Juniors Anna Nestor and Sierra Dawson won the first doubles court.

“They did outstandingly well,” Augenstein said.

In the first round, Nestor and Dawson beat Taylor Huffer and Melanie Winter of Circleville, 8-0.

In the championship match, Nestor and Dawson defeated Kendall Jones and Kendra Risner of Logan Elm, 8-2.

Sophomore Mackenzie Cress and junior Gretchen Milstead were runners-up at second doubles.

Cress and Milstead beat Rimsha Ansar and Megan Frazier of Circleville, 9-7.

Cress and Milstead lost in the championship match to Alex Hettinger and Shelby Ward of Logan Elm, 2-8.

Washington played at Waverly Monday and will make its home debut this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. against East Clinton at Gardner Park.
