The Miami Trace Panthers boys varsity soccer team picked up its first win of the season Saturday in a home match against Southeastern (from near Chillicothe).

The Panthers won the encounter, 2-1.

Miami Trace had both of its goals in the first half.

Despite several opportunities, the Panthers could not pull away from Southeastern.

The other team of Panthers put a goal on the board with about 15 to play in the game, creating a tense situation as Miami Trace defended the lead down to the final horn.

Miami Trace scored with 14:38 to play in the first half. August Langley had the goal with the assist to Blake Pittser.

Then, with 6:38 to play in the half, Pittser scored an unassisted goal.

Tim Kinzler had seven saves for the Panthers.

Miami Trace out-shot Southeastern, 24-11.

Southeastern scored with 14:45 to play in the game.

“It would have been nice to have a couple more goals,” Miami Trace head coach Josh Thoroman said. “We worked for them. We were just unlucky. We missed a lot of opportunities to put them away. It ended up being a battle to the end. It was intense down to the finish.”

The Panthers (1-4-0 overall, 0-3-0 in the SCOL) will be at home to take on Clinton-Massie Thursday at 5 p.m.
