LEESBURG — On another beautiful autumn afternoon and evening, the Washington Lady Blue Lion soccer team traveled down into Highland County to take on the Fairfield Lady Lions in a non-league match Thursday.

Fairfield won the match, 3-2.

The Fairfield Lions led 3-0 at halftime.

“I thought we came out focused and ready to go,” Washington head coach Tyler Rhodus said. “We got down 3-0, but, as I’ve said all season long, my girls don’t give up.

“We made some adjustments at halftime and came out and battled in the second half,” Rhodus said.

For Washington, Alexis Gray scored with about 15 minutes to play in the game and Kara Foy scored with eight minutes to play in the contest. Gray’s goal was unassisted. Gray got the assist on Foy’s goal.

“It’s tough to win when you spot a team three goals,” Rhodus said. “We just have to be able to put ourselves in a situation to compete at the end of the game on a more consistent basis. That’s my big thing this year, consistency.

“We’ll play a good half, then a bad half,” Rhodus said. “We’ll play well for 20 minutes and then play badly for 20 minutes. If we could string together a full game, I’m sure we could compete with more of the teams on our schedule. But, we’ll get there. The girls are still working hard.”

Washington had 15 shots on goal to 19 for Fairfield. Taylor Smith had 15 saves for the Lady Blue Lions.

Washington (2-9-0 overall) will be back in SCOL play Tuesday at Hillsboro at 5 p.m.
