Blue Lion golf team 4th at Sectional

CHILLICOTHE — The Washington Blue Lion golf team advanced to the District tournament with a fourth place finish at the Division II Sectional held at the Jaycees course in Chillicothe.

The top five out of the 14 teams at the Sectional will play at the District tournament Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 9 a.m. at the Crown Hill Golf Club in Williamsport.

Washington shot a team score of 341.

Unioto won the Sectional with a score of 320.

Fairfield Union was second (321) and Sheridan was third (334).

Logan Elm was fifth with a 342.

Senior Max Knisley led the Blue Lions with an 18-hole score of 80.

Junior Kyler Mount shot an 81 and junior Griffin Shaw an 85.

Freshman Tyler Rood shot a 95 and senior Trevor Mustain had a score of 100.

Payton Cooper of Unioto and Thomas Green of Fairfield Union, both seniors, shot scores of 75.

Senior Bane Adkins of Unioto shot a 77 and freshman Costa Coconis of Sheridan had a score of 78.

“My team played really well on Tuesday in rather miserable conditions,” Washington coach Shannon Bartruff said. “Max, Kyler and Griffin all finished in the rain on Tuesday, but Tyler and Trevor had to finish the entirety of their round Thursday as the course became unplayable on Tuesday.”

One team and one individual on the non-qualifying team will make it to the State tournament.

The McClain Tigers placed 11th with a team score of 380.

Scores for McClain: Trevor Newkirk, 84; Alex Payton, 92; Brett Snavely, 101; Ryan Page, 103 and Trenner Wile, 110.

The Miami Trace Panthers, as well as Hillsboro and Chillicothe from the SCOL, are Division I in boys golf and will compete in that Sectional tournament Monday at Hocking Hills Golf Club in Logan.
