Washington’s Anna Nestor and Megan Downing recently competed in the Division II District tennis tournament at Ohio University in Athens.

On Wednesday, Oct. 7, Washington played Knavel and Aftabizadeh of Athens High School..

Washington won the first set, 6-3.

Things were a little shaky in the second set, according to head coach Mitch Augenstein. Washington dropped the second set, 2-6.

Washington pulled it together to win the third set, 7-5.

“Anna dominated at the net and Megan relentlessly got every ball back on the baseline,” Augenstein said.

“Our semifinal match against Molnar and Rodhe from West Holmes gave us a bit of a challenge,” Augenstein said. “They were solid at the net, and (we) just weren’t able to pass them. They won 3-6, 2-6. West Holmes ended up defeating Logan Elm, placing them as the District Champs.

“Overall, it was a great season,” Augenstein said. “We were 14-6 overall, and 7-5 in the SCOL, which I believe put us in third (place).

“I could not have been more proud of my girls and all the hard work, effort, and joy they put into this season,” Augenstein said. “They set the expectations high for me as a first-year coach, and I can’t wait to see what the next season will bring.”
