Lady Panthers beat Madison Plains, 61-48

The Miami Trace Lady Panthers leveled their early-season record at 1-1 with a 61-48 win at Madison Plains Saturday afternoon.

Miami Trace’s Tanner Bryant was the game’s leading scorer with 20 points.

Junior Sam Ritenour had 10 points and junior Hanna Reisinger scored nine.

Macy McCollister led Madison Plains (0-2) with 16 points.

Also for Madison Plains, Shelby Puckett and Christian Bowshier both scored seven points.

“We’re still not where we need to be,” Miami Trace head coach Ben Ackley said. “We’re definitely a work in progress.

“We’re playing man defense this year,” Ackley said. “Hopefully that is something that will be better in mid-January than it is right now.

“Offensively, we’re doing a lot of things that we haven’t done in the past and the kids are growing into that,” Ackley said. “It’s going to be a learning process throughout the early part of the year.

“We pretty much had the lead from start to finish,” Ackley said. “We shot the ball a lot better.”

The Lady Panthers made 19 of 39 shot attempts for 49 percent.

Both teams made 5 of 12 three point shots for 42 percent.

Madison Plains was 16 of 37 overall for 43 percent.

“We got to the foul line quite a bit and shot well,” Ackley said.

Miami Trace was 18 of 25 from the free throw line for 72 percent.

Madison Plains was 11 of 15 from the line for 73 percent.

“We pressed and tried to speed the game up,” Ackley said. “Our energy level was better.”

Miami Trace outscored Madison Plains 19-8 in the first quarter and 15-10 in the third quarter.

Madison Plains outscored Miami Trace by two points in the second quarter and one point in the fourth quarter.

Miami Trace continues on the road tonight, beginning SCOL play at East Clinton with the j-v game at 5:30 p.m.

Miami Trace will play at Washington High School Saturday with the j-v game starting at noon.

Miami Trace’s first home game will be Wednesday, Dec. 2 against Clinton-Massie at 5:30 p.m.
