The Washington Lady Blue Lions hosted the Hillsboro Lady Indians in an SCOL match-up Saturday evening at Washington High School.
Washington took a 17-2 lead early in the second quarter on the way to a 47-21 victory.
Washington (now 3-4 overall, 3-3 in the SCOL) was led by freshman Hannah Haithcock (the game’s leading scorer) with 14 points.
Senior Jaycie McRobert was in double figures with 12 points and freshman Kassidy Hines scored eight.
For Hillsboro (1-8 overall, 1-4 in the SCOL), freshman Lana Grover led with 10 points.
Washington led 10-2 at the end of the first quarter and 25-6 at the half.
Washington held a 37-15 lead at the end of the third quarter.
“They’re down,” Washington head coach John Persinger said. “They only brought 11 girls. (Some) of them are injured. Some of their starters had to play one quarter in the j-v game. They’re a much better team than what they showed tonight.
“It was good that we got everyone into the game,” Persinger said. “Most everyone had two quarters of play tonight.
“From the get-go, we’ve wanted Kassidy to shoot the ball and she just hasn’t,” Persinger said. “She didn’t look to shoot. Now, she’s getting more involved and tonight was a big night for her.”
“We didn’t handle their pressure well,” Hillsboro head coach J.R. Moberly said. “We didn’t shoot the ball well. We’ve got to get stronger and handle those things; that’s varsity basketball. Young kids have to grow up quick.
“The girls are working very hard,” Moberly said. “They’re great kids and they’re doing everything I’m asking of them.”
Washington will host league-leading Clinton-Massie Wednesday with the j-v game at 5:30 p.m.
Clinton-Massie is now in a three-way tie for first place in the SCOL, after losing its first game of the season Saturday, 60-58 to Wilmington.
Miami Trace and McClain each have one league loss, both coming to Clinton-Massie. Massie is 4-1 in the SCOL, 8-1 overall.
Elsewhere in the SCOL Saturday, McClain defeated East Clinton, 64-29.
Hillsboro will host Wilmington Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
Wilmington is now 3-4 overall, 2-3 in the SCOL.

Lady Lions win j-v game vs. Hillsboro
Washington won the j-v game against Hillsboro Saturday, 35-18.
Washington is now 5-1 on the season, all of the games coming against SCOL opponents.
Tabby Woods was the game’s leading scorer for Washington with nine points.
Raven Haithcock was next with eight points.
Kaley Burns led Hillsboro with six points.
