Blue Lion 8th grade splits with ‘Cane, Tigers

The Washington 8th grade boys basketball team resumed play after the holiday break with a pair of home games against Wilmington and Greenfield.

They split the games, losing to Wilmington and picking up the win against Greenfield.

On Monday, Jan. 4, Washington played Wilmington.

It was a closely-contested game for three periods.

In the end, Wilmington’s 19-point fourth quarter was too much to overcome.

For the Blue Lions, Levi Ludwick led the way in scoring with 12. Trevor Rarrick scored 10 and Garitt Leisure had 9.

Also contributing for the Blue Lions: Eli Lynch had 6, Ryan Schwartz and Miguel O’Flahrety both had 3, and Gabe Arazo had 1.

On Thursday, Jan. 7, Washington hosted Greenfield.

The Blue Lions found themselves in another close game against the Tigers.

Trevor Rarrick’s 10-point first half helped carry a two-point lead into the locker room.

Greenfield answered back in the third and took a two-point lead to start the final period.

In the end it came down to free throws.

The Blue Lions went 7 for 7 from the free throw line in the fourth period to help secure the 52-48 victory over Greenfield.

Garitt Leisure was the leading scorer with 18. Trevor Rarrick had 14.

Both Eli Lynch and Levi Ludwick scored 7, and Gabe Arazo had 6 which all came in the fourth period.
