MT 8th grade girls place 2nd at Hillsboro tournament

After several cancellations due to weather, the SCOL girls junior high tournament got underway at Hillsboro High School on Feb. 17.

The Miami Trace 8th grade girls took on Hillsboro in the first round, defeating the Indians, 37-24.

Shaylee McDonald led the Lady Panthers with 21 points and 8 steals.

Morgan Eggleton was next with 8 points and 6 rebounds.

Aubrey Schwartz had a bucket, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

Kate Leach had a bucket and 5 rebounds. Shania Villaruel and Grace Bapst each had a two points.

The Panthers’ next match up was against the Wilmington Hurricanes, which proved to be a very exciting game to the final seconds.

Wilmington led 9-8 at the end of the first quarter.

A back-and-forth second quarter left Wilmington on top, 17-16 at halftime.

The Panthers came out at half ready to continue the battle. Wilmington held the lead after three quarters, 34-31.

The Panthers outscored the Hurricane 10-5 in the fourth to win, 41-39.

This win secured them a place in the championship game.

Shaylee McDonald led with 22 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Morgan Eggleton was in double digits with 10 points to go along with 4 rebounds.

Aubrey Schwartz had 3 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Kate Leach had 4 points and Shania Villaruel had 2 points.

The championship game pitted the Panthers against the No. 1 seed, the Chillicothe Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers started the game on fire, but the Panthers fought until the end.

Chillicothe won the championship, 31-24.

Shaylee McDonald led with 21 points and 4 steals.

Morgan Eggleton had 3 points and 4 rebounds. Aubrey Schwartz led in rebounding with 7 and had 4 assists.

The Lady Panthers finished the 2015-16 season with an 11-6 record.
