LEES CREEK — The Miami Trace Panthers varsity baseball team visited East Clinton High School Friday for an SCOL game against the Astros.

The Panthers improved to 3-0 on the season with a 3-2 win.

Trevon Burnside pitched a complete game for Miami Trace, seven innings, with three hits and two runs (one earned), three walks, 11 strikeouts and one hit batsman to notch the win.

For the Astros, Newman started and pitched six innings, taking the loss. He gave up eight hits and three runs (all earned) with one strikeout and no walks.

Arelland pitched a scoreless top of the seventh, with two hits and one strikeout.

Miami Trace played error-free baseball and collected 10 hits.

Josh Morton led the Panthers, going 3 for 4 with one run and one rbi.

Brady Wallace was 2 for 4 with one run scored.

Drew Stevens was 2 for 3 and Mitchell Creamer had a hit and drove in two runs.

“It was a good, clean baseball game against a much-improved East Clinton team,” Miami Trace head coach Rob Smith said.

“Trevon was in control the entire game, with the exception of the fourth inning,” Smith said. “He had an 0-2 count and then hit that batter. Then they had a little hit between short and third base. They got a single with two outs and a passed ball allowed the other run to score.”

In the first for the Panthers, Morton had an infield hit and Wallace followed with a bunt single.

Creamer hit a slow roller on the infield that allowed both runners to score.

In the top of the fourth, Coby Hughes had a single. He later scored on a single by Morton.

“Our defense played really well,” Smith said. “Offensively, we left seven or eight guys on base. We had them moved over all night. We hit the ball right at them and they made plays.”

Miami Trace (now 2-0 in the SCOL) will play a double header Saturday against Xenia Christian at the Athletes in Action field. The first game is slated to start at 4:30 p.m.

The Panthers will resume SCOL play at home Monday against Wilmington and also at home Wednesday to take on McClain.

Offensively for Miami Trace: Josh Morton, 3-4, 1 run, 1 rbi; Brady Wallace, 2-4, 1 run; Trenton Harris, 0-3; Mitchell Creamer, 1-3, 2 rbi; Skyler McDonald, 0-3; Drew Stevens, 2-3; Coby Hughes, 1-2, 1 run; Logan Robinson, 1-2; Hunter Moore, 0-3.
