Blue Lions fall to Wilmington, 8-6

The Washington Blue Lions hosted the Wilmington Hurricane in an SCOL baseball match-up Friday evening.

Both teams came into the game with identical 3-1 records in the league.

Wilmington held off a seventh inning rally by the Blue Lions to post an 8-6 win.

It was a very tough day for the Blue Lion defense as Washington committed eight errors.

Wilmington struggled defensively, as well, with four errors.

Aaron Greer started and was the hard-luck losing pitcher for the Blue Lions.

He worked six innings with three hits, five runs (two earned), three walks and seven strikeouts.

Jordan Flowers pitched the seventh inning for the Blue Lions, with two hits, three unearned runs and three strikeouts.

Stephen Krause started the got the win for Wilmington. He pitched six innings with four hits and two runs (both earned), walking two and striking out four.

Brady McCune pitched the seventh for the ‘Cane with three hits and four runs (none earned). He walked one and struck out two.

Wilmington began the game with a run in the first inning.

The Blue Lions tied the game in the bottom of the third.

Wilmington responded with two runs in the fourth and took a 3-1 lead into the sixth inning.

In that frame, the ‘Cane put two more runs on the board.

Washington answered with a run in its half of the sixth to make it 5-2.

The rains began falling about this time on another chilly early April evening.

Wilmington scored three in the seventh to take an 8-2 lead.

The Blue Lions rallied with four runs in the seventh, falling short by the final tally of 8-6.

Leading hitters for the Blue Lions included Greer, who was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs driven in.

Brian Wilson was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

For Wilmington, Chris Wolary hit a home run, scored three times and drove in three.

Krause went 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

Wilmington is now 5-5 overall.

The Blue Lions are 5-2 overall.

Washington is scheduled to play at Mitchell Park in Greenfield against the McClain Tigers in an SCOL game Monday.

Washington then will host Miami Trace on Wednesday and Clinton-Massie on Friday.

The Panthers were rained out at Hillsboro Friday. That game will be now be played Thursday, April 21 (as will the Miami Trace at Hillsboro softball game).

McClain at East Clinton and Chillicothe at Clinton-Massie were also postponed Friday.
