There was an historic footnote to Friday’s tennis match between the Miami Trace Panthers and Washington Blue Lions.

The match was the last SCOL tennis match to be played on the courts at the Club at Quail Run, the home courts for Miami Trace virtually since the program was founded.

Miami Trace High School is having courts installed at the high school and will begin the girls’ season in August on those new home courts.

The Panthers will play their final match ever on the courts at the Club at Quail Run Monday against Unioto, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The Blue Lions won Friday’s match, three courts to two.

At first singles, Miami Trace’s Seth Leach beat Ken Upthegrove, 6-1, 6-4.

At second singles, Washington’s Grant Mustain defeated Matt Fender, 7-5, 6-3.

At third singles, Washington’s Jordan Behm beat Ely Schirtzinger, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4.

“Ely fought back with great intensity in this match,” Miami Trace head coach Mitch Augenstein said.

The two squads split play in the doubles matches.

At first doubles, Miami Trace’s Adam Ginn and Johnathan Allen defeated Madalyn Wayne and Max Schroeder, 6-4, 7-5.

At second doubles, it was Washington’s Brady Morris and Jakob Snyder beating Riley Evans and Todd Peterson, 6-4, 6-1.

The teams also played two j-v matches, winning one each.

Miami Trace’s Drew Stanforth beat Tony Kuenzli, 8-0.

Washington’s Jack Luebbe and Susanna Eckstein beat Elijah Campbell and Coby Seyfang, 8-2.

“That was our last league match, final SCOL match on the Club courts, and one senior night for Riley,” Augenstein said. “Many parents and fans commented and are noticing the great strides the Panther tennis program is taking, and we couldn’t be more proud of their hard work.”
