Lady Lions sweep McClain


Post 7-2 win in completion of suspended game

The Washington Lady Blue Lion softball team completed a season sweep of McClain in a game Monday, May 2 at Washington High School.

This was the completion of a suspended game from April 26. On that day, Washington had taken a 1-0 lead when the rains came.

Washington finished the game with a 7-2 win over McClain.

Kate Jude got the win for the Lady Lions. She pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and two runs (both earned) with one walk and seven strikeouts.

At the plate, Jude was the leading hitter for Washington, going 3 for 4 with a double and a home run.

Shrout took the loss for McClain, going six innings with nine hits and seven runs (all earned), three walks and two strikeouts.

It was a well-played game, defensively, with only one error charged to Washington.

For Washington: Brooklyn Wilson had a hit and scored one; Madison Helterbrand had a hit and scored twice; Wendy Hawk scored one and had one rbi; Kalee Crowe had one hit, scored one and had one rbi; Maddy Jenkins, Meghan Tucker and Taylor Harrington each had a hit for Washington.

Hailey Hartshorn scored as a courtesy runner.

Washington added to its 1-0 lead with four in the third inning.

The Lady Lions scored two in the sixth and McClain rallied for two in the seventh.

The Lady Lions finish SCOL play for 2016 with a record of 6-8.

On Tuesday, Washington traveled to Blanchester, falling in a close contest, 9-8, their record going to 9-10 overall.

Washington will play at Miami Trace in the first round of the Sectional tournament Wednesday, May 11 at 5 p.m.
