GREENFIELD — The Miami Trace Lady Panthers completed SCOL play for 2016 with a game at Daryle Unger Field at Mitchell Park in Greenfield against the McClain Lady Tigers Thursday, May 5.
Miami Trace won the game, 15-1 in five innings.
The Lady Panthers finish the SCOL with a record of 10-4. They are 14-9 overall.
Maddie Mossbarger was the starting and winning pitcher for Miami Trace. She pitched five innings with one run (earned), six hits, no walks and no strikeouts.
Strout took the loss for McClain. She pitched five innings with 15 runs (12 earned) on 14 hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. She hit one batter.
Offensively, Alexis Schwartz went 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles, five rbi and two runs scored.
Ashley Campbell went 2 for 3 with a three-run home run, her fourth of the season.
Whitney Cockerill went 3 for 4 with a double and three runs scored.
Taylor Barrett had two hits and drove in four. She scored one and one of her hits was a double.
Miami Trace got off the bus and they were ready to go, scoring all the runs they would need (four) in the first inning.
Harmonee Napier singled and with one out Megan Self walked. Schwartz hit a double that scored two.
Barrett singled, scoring Schwartz and Jessica Camp singled, scoring Barrett.
In the second inning, Cockerill led off with a double and Napier walked.
Campbell then drilled a home run over the left field fence to make it 7-0.
The third inning was another scoring inning for the Lady Panthers.
Cassidy Lovett started the inning off with a single and Tori Riley reached on an error.
Cockerill had an infield single that loaded the bases.
Lovett scored on a passed ball and then Campbell singled, followed by a single by Schwartz that drove in Riley and Cockerill.
McClain scored its lone run in the bottom of the third.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Miami Trace put five runs on the board in the fifth.
Cockerill led off the inning with a single and Napier walked.
Olivia Wolffe was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Emylee Grooms walked, scoring Cockerill.
Schwartz walked, forcing in Napier.
Barrett then drilled a double that scored Wolffe, Grooms and Schwartz.
“Our bats came out from the beginning of the game and we hit the ball hard,” Miami Trace head coach Terry Smith said. “Again, we’ve hit the ball hard most of the year, all the way through the line-up. We had girls again with multiple hit games. We’ve hit an awful lot of doubles this year.”
Home run production is up as well, Smith noted.
Brooke Henry and Ashley Campbell each have four home runs; Alexis Schwartz, Taylor Barrett and Jessica Camp have each hit two home runs.
“Five different girls hitting home runs is the most I’ve had on a team,” Smith said.
Smith is hoping the Lady Panthers can find a game next week prior to the Sectional tournament game at home against Washington Wednesday at 5 p.m.
