The Washington Lady Blue Lion tennis team continued its road trip with wins at Clinton-Massie on Sept. 8 and at Circleville on Sept. 12.
On Sept. 8, at Clinton-Massie, Washington won this SCOL match, 4-1.
At first singles, Megan Downing lost to Hailey Clayborn, 3-6, 4-6.
At second singles, Anna Nestor defeated Anne Thompson, 5-7, 6-1, 10-3 (super tiebreaker to 10 for third set).
At third singles, Maria Pickerill beat Morgan Edgar, 6-0, 6-1.
On the first doubles court, Sierra Dawson and Mackenzie Cress defeated Claire Corruthers and Hailey Stinchcomb, 6-7 (2-7), 6-1, 6-4.
At second doubles, Gretchen Milstead and Jen Richards beat Megan Wonderly and Amber Winemiller, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (19-17). Regular tiebreakers go to 7 points.
“That was a nail-biter,” Washington head coach Mitch Augenstein said.
The Lady Lions won two j-v matches.
Sydnie Hall and Beth Wilt won, 8-6 and Payton Maddux and Jocelyn Trimmer won, 8-4. (J-v players names for Massie were not available.)
On Monday, Sept. 12, Washington traveled to Circleville and won, 5-0.
At first singles, Megan Downing defeated Megan Frazier, 6-0, 6-0.
At second singles, Maria Pickerill beat Elizabeth Timmons, 6-1, 6-0.
Sydnie Hall defeated Madison Graul at third singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Anna Nestor and Sierra Dawson won at first doubles against Taylor Huffer and Melanie Winter, 6-1, 6-0.
Jen Richards and Beth Wilt beat Allyson Withers and Madalyn Faushough at second doubles, 6-1, 6-0.
Washington is at home Thursday to host East Clinton at 4:30 p.m.
