Wilmington soccer tops Lady Lions, 8-1

The Washington Lady Blue Lion soccer team hosted Wilmington Thursday for the final time as members of the South Central Ohio League.

Wilmington won the match, 8-1.

There was improvement shown by the Lady Lions as the second half of the match was scoreless. This is the first time this season that Washington has shut out an opponent in a half of play (40 minutes).

For Washington, Kassidy Hines converted a penalty kick in the ninth minute of the first half.

“We had a 0-0 second half,” Washington head coach Tammi Ramsey said.

Wilmington had 21 shots on goal to four for Washington.

In goal for Washington, Aurora Wilson had 11 saves.

“We’re gaining experience,” Ramsey said. “We’re getting better.

“It was a fun second half to watch,” Ramsey said. “The girls are communicating, they’re possessing the ball. Those are things we’ve been talking about. It was nice to see them play smart, physical soccer for an entire half. Tonight proved that we an do that.

“We played really well in the first 20 minutes of the game, too,” Ramsey said. “It was a 1-1 game the first 20 minutes.”

Washington (0-13 overall, 0-12 in the SCOL) will play at McClain High School in Greenfield Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The Lady Lions will host Miami Trace for Senior Night Thursday. Senior recognition begins at 4:45 p.m.
