Clinton-Massie beats Blue Lions, 70-0

ADAMS TOWNSHIP – The last South Central Ohio League team to beat Clinton-Massie in football — Washington Court House on Oct. 12, 2007 — had one last chance to defeat the Falcons.

Clinton-Massie won the game, 70-0.

This perhaps was previously unbeaten Washington’s biggest test of the 2016 campaign as its opponents had a combined 6-19 record entering Friday. Coming in averaging 40 points per game, WCH (5-1, 2-1) was Massie’s 38th SCOL shutout victim since the Falcons entered the league in 2005.

Massie (5-1, 3-0), ranked 12th in latest Associated Press Ohio Division IV poll, scored the first four times it had the ball. The first came after stopping WCH on 4th-and-13 on its 17. The last came after a Blue Lion fumble at the CM 25.

CM put the running clock into effect in the second half by taking a 35-0 cushion to the locker room. And even the running clock couldn’t slow Massie’s fireworks.

Devon O’Bryon returned the second-half kickoff 66 yards to the WCH 6. He sneaked it in three plays later to put Massie up 42-0.

A pair of pick sixes on the next two Blue Lion drives, by Cole O’Bryon and Cade James, pushed Massie’s margin to 56-0.

Washington had another turnover that led to another Falcon score, this time by the second-stringers. Clayton Sheeley crossed the goal line from two yards out for a 63-0 lead.

Sheeley scored again with 2:53 left in the contest, a four-yard plunge, to set the final score.

The Blue Lions return to Clinton County next week to take on Wilmington.

The Hurricane improved to 5-1 on the season, 3-0 in the SCOL, with a 42-10 win over East Clinton.
