Court sentencings continue for defendants in heroin trafficking bust

Multiple defendants allegedly involved in a heroin trafficking network in Fayette County, some with Dayton connections, have plead to their charges, received a sentence or continue to await trail.

Nine people were indicted in September for alleged heroin trafficking: Sean K. McKittrick, Alissa K. Bonecutter, Carla A. Doctor, Nathaniel C. Stroud, Albert L. Francis Jr. aka “Manny,” Rita F. Groves, Larry Young, Derrick D. Thomas aka “Nephew,” and Raymond E. Baker.

The indictments were handed down by a Fayette County grand jury last year following an investigation by undercover officers and confidential informants working with the U.S. 23 Major Crimes Task Force and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

The following people have appeared in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas:

Raymond E. Baker, 32, of Chillicothe plead guilty Monday, Feb. 13 to two counts of trafficking in heroin, both felonies of the fifth degree. Baker was sentenced to one year in prison.

Nathaniel C. Stroud, of Leesburg, is pending a jury trial Feb. 23 for two counts of trafficking in heroin, felonies of the fifth degree. A motion to withdraw counsel was filed Jan. 17 and accepted Jan. 23.

Larry Young, 36, of Washington Ave., Washington C.H., plead guilty Jan. 17 to one count of trafficking in heroin, a felony of the fourth degree. Young is scheduled for sentencing March 13.

Rita F. Groves, 57, of Temple St., Washington C.H., plead guilty Dec. 5 to one count of trafficking in heroin, a felony of the fifth degree. Groves was sentenced Feb. 7 to two years of community control, 30 days of house arrest and was ordered to continue with mental health treatment.

Derrick D. Thomas, aka “Nephew,” 26, of Hoover Avenue in Dayton, is facing a pending jury trial Feb. 21 for four charges of trafficking in heroin, felonies of the second, fourth, and fifth degrees, three charges of trafficking in cocaine, felonies of the fourth and fifth degrees, two charges of aggravated trafficking in drugs, felonies of the fourth degree, and one charge of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, a felony of the first degree.

Albert L. Francis Jr. aka “Manny,” 36, of Vancouver Street in Dayton, is pending a jury trial March 2 for four charges of trafficking in heroin, felonies of the fourth degree, two charges of trafficking in cocaine, one a felony of the fourth degree and one a fifth degree felony, two charges of aggravated trafficking in drugs, one a felony of the third degree and the other a fourth degree felony, and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, a felony of the first degree.

Alissa K. Bonecutter, 28, of Commons Drive, was sentenced Dec. 29 to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to charges of aggravated trafficking in drugs (fentanyl) and trafficking in heroin.

Carla A. Doctor, 45, of Staunton-Jasper Road, was sentenced Dec. 29 to seven months in prison after she plead to charges of trafficking in heroin and trafficking in cocaine.

Sean K. McKittrick 36, of Washington Ave., Washington Court House, was sentenced Nov. 14 to 180 days in the Monday Program, a community-based in-patient treatment facility in Dayton, and received a six-month driver’s license suspension after pleading guilty to forgery, a fifth-degree felony, and trafficking in heroin, a fourth-degree felony.

According to court records, the alleged drug deals happened across Fayette County in multiple locations, including in the parking lots behind downtown businesses in Washington Court House and at residences on Maple Street and Peddicord Avenue.
