According to reports, the Washington C.H. Police Department responded to the following calls:
June 14
Domestic Violence: At 12:39 a.m., officers responded to a residence in reference to a domestic violence complaint. Contact was made with a woman who advised that she was assaulted by her child’s father, Edward Sofchak. He was arrested and charged.
June 13
Misuse of 911/Disorderly Conduct: At 2:36 a.m., police responded to the area of Pearl Street and Western Avenue in reference to an intoxicated male who continued to call 911 just to curse at the dispatcher. Contact was made with Austin Joseph, who was intoxicated, in the street and he continued to be disorderly. Joseph was arrested, and his mother, Beth Joseph, who was also intoxicated, became disorderly, at which time she was arrested. Both had been given disorderly conduct warnings when they left the bar a short time earlier. Both were charged accordingly.
Assault/Unlawful Restraint: At 10 a.m., a woman reported an assault complaint. She advised that she was assaulted by her boyfriend, Jason Fitch, who would not allow her to leave the residence. She was able to flee the residence and eventually made it to the police department. The victim had visible signs of being assaulted and charges were filed.
Theft: At 8:35 p.m., the loss prevention employee at Walmart reported a shoplifting complaint that occurred on June 6. The two offenders were identified as Heather Shelpman and Rex Jones. A theft report was completed.
June 12
Theft: At 7:15 a.m., Kyle Bennett reported a theft complaint. He advised that sometime overnight, unknown persons stole his wallet and cash from his bedroom while he was sleeping. The only person in the residence besides him was his wife. A report was completed.
June 11
Drug Abuse Instrument/Drug Paraphernalia: At 2:07 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, drug paraphernalia was observed in plain view. Officers checked the rest of the vehicle and located more drug paraphernalia. Preston Justice and Richard J. Myers were arrested and charged accordingly.
Theft: At 3:18 p.m., David Kerns reported a theft complaint. He advised that unknown persons stole items from his unlocked and running vehicle. A theft report was completed.
Drug Paraphernalia/Obstructing/Possession of Marijuana/Tampering with Evidence: At 11:56 p.m., officers observed a male and female “messing around” near the rear trash cans of The Rusty Keg restaurant that was closed. As officers attempted to make contact with the two and the male, identified as Christopher Hunt, fled on foot. He was apprehended after a short foot pursuit and placed into a patrol car while officers checked the area. While in the back of the patrol car, Hunt ingested suspected narcotics that were observed on the cruiser camera. Hunt was also in possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana. He was charged accordingly.
June 8
Trespassing/Theft/Possession of Drug Abuse Instruments: At 10:02 a.m. after arresting James Trisdale for trespassing at Kroger, officers located stolen merchandise belonging to Kroger and a drug abuse instrument in Trisdale’s pockets. Charges were filed.
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: At 6 p.m. while investigating a theft offense, officers made contact with Tabitha Stewart. While speaking with Stewart, she allowed officers to check her belongings. A pipe used in the ingestion of drugs was located. Charges were filed.
June 7
Breaking and Entering: At 9:42 a.m., Mark Wickensimer reported that damage was caused to a residence on North Street by an unknown person or persons prying open a door.
Disorderly Conduct: At 10:53 a.m., Joshua Thompson was arrested after officers found him unable to care for himself.
Theft: At 2:40 p.m., Damon Reynolds reported that a known offender stole money from him after he made a withdraw at a local ATM. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
