The following fire reports were released by the Washington Fire Department (WFD):

July 17 – 2758 Rt. 41 NE

Received call reporting a grill / back porch fire at a neighboring house. FD did not find any smoke or fire at the time of arrival and was informed by occupants the grill on the back porch had flamed up and they were able to extinguish with a garden hose prior to FD arrival. FD investigation found the grill located under a roof overhang on the back porch with smoke and heat damage to both the siding behind the grill and soffit above the grill. FD checked the attic space directly above the grill, which is open to the entire attic space for fire and smoke extension.

July 17 – 817 Pin Oak Pl.

FD received station tones for a light pole on fire in the rear of the residence. FD arrived on scene and talked to the occupant and he advised FD that the light was just arcing when the rain hit it just right. The occupant said the light pole was on the street behind his house. FD went and looked at the pole but did not see any arcing at the time of investigation.

July 16 – 603 Village Ct. Apt. E

FD was requested to assist Fayette County EMS

July 15 – 628 Peddicord Ave.

Received request from occupant to check the residence for carbon-monoxide. FD investigation did not detect any carbon-monoxide, nor did it find any gas appliances within the residence. FD asked if they wanted EMS dispatched, but the occupant declined. FD advised to have their symptoms checked.

July 15 – 915 Vine St.

Received call reporting a grill / back porch fire at a neighboring house. FD did not find any smoke or fire at the time of arrival and was informed by occupants the grill on the back porch had flamed up and they were able to extinguish with a garden hose prior to FD arrival. FD investigation found the grill located under a roof overhang on the back porch with smoke and heat damage to both the siding behind the grill and soffit above the grill. FD checked the attic space directly above the grill, which is open to the entire attic space for fire and smoke extension.

July 13 – 316 E. Court St. Apt. 2

FD was requested for a smell of gas inside a residence. FD detected 8 percent LEL near the cooking stove in apartment 2. Another leak was detected near the furnace for apartment 2. FD turned off the gas at the meter to and used a positive pressure fan to ventilate the structure. FD notified the gas company about turning off the meter to apartment 2. FD advised to have repairs made.

July 13 – 1809 Columbus Ave. Apt. 105

FD responded to a fire alarm activation. On arrival, no smoke or fire was showing. FD was notified by bystanders the alarm came from apartment 105. FD made contact with the occupant of apartment 105. The cause of the alarm was accidentally caused by cooking smoke from a portable outdoor grill.

July 13 – 1211 Columbus Ave.

Received station tone from the Fayette County Sheriffs Office reporting smoke coming from lights. FD did not find any smoke or fire at the time of arrival, but found light smoke in the front breezeway when making entry. FD evacuated employees and patrons and noted smoke coming from around the window near the Northern most exterior light fixture. FD removed ceiling tiles near the inside corner and found moderate smoke conditions with no visible fire. FD was aided by employees in shutting off all exterior lighting in the main panel box. FD noted major smoldering at / near the corner and base of the breezeway wall with a small visible flame on the exterior. FD opened inspection holes on the interior of the breezeway in both corner columns and found smoke in both and fire contained within the Northern most column. FD extinguished the fire and established positive pressure ventilation. FD opened the base of the Northern most column from the outside to check for extension and continue extinguishment. FD places the point of origin at / near the base of the Northern most column in the mulch and burning from the outside in. FD was unable to determine / locate an ignition source.

July 13 – 1809 Columbus Ave.

Received station tone from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reporting a fire alarm activation, building two. FD did not find any smoke or fire at the time of arrival. FD investigation found an activated detector in room 223 where steam cleaning was being performed.

July 13 – N. Main St.

Received station tone from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reporting a two-vehicle accident. FD found both vehicles upright and on all four wheels with no smoke or fire at the time of arrival. One vehicle was facing North and pulled off into on street parking located on the East side of the North bound lane with the other located in the intersection and facing West in the West bound lane of travel. FD confirmed there was no entrapment, applied absorbency to fluids on the roadway and checked both vehicles for safety. FD assisted with general clean-up.

July 12 – 3926 Prairie Road

Received station tone from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reporting oil on the roadway. FD found farm equipment off the roadway with an oil slick stretching approximately an eighth of a mile. FD was informed by the operator and others spreading absorbency that a hydraulic line burst and dumped thirty plus gallons of hydraulic fluid on the roadway. FD positioned the apparatus to create a safe work area, control the flow of traffic and assisted with mitigation and clean-up.
