KINNIKINNICK — The Washington and Miami Trace High School and Middle School cross country teams competed in the Zane Trace Invitational Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023.

In the high school boys race, there were 17 schools represented and 199 runners.

Westerville South won with 59 placement points.

Chillicothe was second with 71 points; Jackson was sixth with 167 points; Fairfield was eighth with 257 points; Washington was 11th with 291 points; Miami Trace finished 14th with 319 points and McClain was 17th with 511 points.

Adena’s Ryan Richendollar won the event with a time of 17:02.40. Samuel Boys of Vinton County was a very close second in 17:02.90 and Jayden Beverly of Chillicothe placed third in a time of 17:30.10.

Miami Trace senior Eli Fliehman was 11th overall in 18:04.60.

The first Blue Lion to cross the finish line was sophomore Avery Wightman, 14th in 18:26.90.

Hillsboro freshman Rason Brunck was 16th in 18:31.60.

For Fairfield, senior Britton Campbell placed 51st overall in 20:17.80.

McClain freshman Dart Stovall was 107th overall in 22:16.40.

Westerville South won the high school girls race with 70 placement points.

Teays Valley was second with 79 and Hilliard Darby was third with 84 points.

Hillsboro placed fifth with 158 points; Chillicothe was seventh with 164 points; McClain was 12th with 325 points.

Katy Zang of Teays Valley won with a time of 20:11.03. There were 143 runners in the event.

Meghan Worch of Westerville South was second in 20:46.16 and Kenzie Bice of Ridgewood was third in 20:57.19.

Hillsboro sophomore Taylor Thoroman was ninth out of a total of 143 runners in 22:12.01.

Miami Trace sophomore Kamika Bennett was 28th in 23:32.59.

Katrina Sturgeon, senior, of McClain was 64th in 26:31.61.

Washington sophomore Alicia Navarrete was 84th in 28:40.21.

Senior Campbell Anne Friend was 127th for Fairfield in 34:23.97.

The Miami Trace girls middle school team placed second out of eight teams with 74 placement points.

Bishop Flaget won with 62 points.

Gabriella Maranzana of Bishop Flaget won in 12:46.06.

Sophie Williams of Zane Trace placed second in a time of 14:01.26 and Naomi Boyd of Vinton County was third in 14:11.37.

There were 83 runners in the event.

Alli Knect of Miami Trace placed fifth in 14:51.01.

Eva Bennett of Washington was sixth in 15:03.59.

Kalliegh Freeze of Greenfield was 11th in 15:24.13.

Parker Wilkin of Hillsboro was 18th in 15:52.60.

Iryna Reeves of Fairfield placed 46th in 18:09.52.

Vinton County won the middle school boys meet with 72 points.

Paint Valley was second with 92 placement points and Jackson was third with 111 points.

Miami Trace was fourth with 124 points.

Hillsboro placed seventh with 151 points, Washington finished ninth with 190 points and Fairfield was 10th with 194 points.

Sam Hurff of Bishop Flaget won in a time of 12:15.09.

Wesley Newton of Vinton County took second in 12:15.13 and Levi Wood of Chillicothe placed third in 12:38.06.

Hillsboro’s Alexander Read was fourth out of a total of 95 runners with a time of 12:45.96.

Ryan Hatert of Miami Trace was 10th in 13:02.34.

Caleb Atkinson of Washington placed 34th in 14:09.30.

Isaac Mincey of Greenfield was 37th in 14:26.82 and Blake Walters of Fairfield was 41st in 14:34.33.

There were 95 runners in the event.

Both teams will take part in the Aaron Reed Memorial Invitational at Southeastern High School near Chillicothe Saturday at 9 a.m.
