WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE — For many years, the Fayette County Travel and Tourism Bureau has provided a “Tourism Assistance Grant” to our market. These grants are provided to “enhance and strengthen the positive economic impact of the tourism industry in our community. Funds are available to nonprofit and local community organizations to benefit Fayette County recreational and tourism activities.”

The market, as well as many other community programs and organizations, are recognized for their impact on tourism and the local economy.

A number of us have noticed over the last several years the many new customers coming to the market each week; some of these customers tell me that they have seen the Facebook live feed or the weekly article in the Record-Herald or the article on the market Facebook page. At least one special market customer follows our news and travels from Dayton!

New customers may just wander in or “check us out” based on a street sign or a suggestion from a friend. Repeat customers come because they believe in supporting farmers markets, because we’re a “happening place,” and because we have products that they want. The “happening place” is partly so because of the live music and tastings sponsored by the FC Travel and Tourism Bureau.

Fayette County Travel & Tourism Bureau is an informational organization that promotes tourism to the county through regional and statewide marketing efforts. Our mission is to promote the historical significance, points of interest and activities for travel, tourism and the hospitality industry in Fayette County. Visit their website (https://visitfayco.com/) for more information about their bureau hours of operation, various local opportunities, and a full list of the programs and organizations which they support financially.

Our community guests this week (weather-permitting) are: The Scouts of BSA Troop 732 (selling Pecatonica Popcorn and Trail Mix. The funds raised will help these Scouts continue their outings and attend summer camp) and South Plymouth Pumpkins (Jared Persinger) (weather-permitting) (with a large variety of pumpkins and decorative gourds) and Fayette County Public Health team (members onsite with information on breast and cervical cancer project —provides free screenings for women who qualify— and 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline t-shirts for sale and information about suicide prevention training).

The Market is open Saturday morning from 8:30 to noon. It is located in the municipal parking lot on the corner of South Main and East East streets. SNAP EBT food benefit cards and credit/debit cards are accepted. Those using the SNAP EBT card for food purchases receive matching dollar “Produce Perks” tokens ($1 for $1) good only for fruits, vegetables, and food producing plants. So,”buy one, get one” for up to $25 every market day. Five dollar coupons will be available again for Fayette County Farm Bureau members at each Saturday market; these can be spent at both the Wednesday and Saturday markets.
