After a three-week break from league dual matches, the Washington Blue Lions (1-1 in the FAC) and Lady Lions (2-0 in the FAC) hosted McClain on Thursday for a Frontier Athletic Conference dual.
The Lady Lions won 30-24 and the Blue Lions won 58-15 to secure the sweep.
At the junior high level, Washington won by a score of 48-33.
The Court House Cobras went 4-2 on the evening.
In the girls dual, the score was tied 24-24 with one match remaining. The contest featured Alicia Navarette of Washington and Lexi Burns of McClain. Navarrete pinned Burns in the second period to keep the Lady Lions undefeated in dual competition.
Lady Lion head coach Wes Gibbs spoke following the win.
“I thought we wrestled real well. We were kind of at a handicap. When you take some of our girls out of the picture, we can’t eliminate some of their best girls. It came down to Alicia Navarrete and she came away with a huge pin. She won the meet for us.”
The Lady Lions are back in action next weekend in the Pioneer Classic at Olentangy High School.
Blue Lion head coach Louis Reid shared some comments after the victory.
“We’re still very much in the running for a league title. We had a very different lineup tonight, we got some guys back and moved some guys around. We still have some guys out right now but once we get our lineup healthy, we will be even better. I thought we looked really solid tonight. We knew what we needed to do and our guys went out and wrestled very well. We had four pins and two technical falls. Jake Bashor had probably the toughest match and lost 3-0 to state-ranked and returning state-qualifier Ethan Hill. Jake wrestled him very tough tonight.
“We are building up for the postseason and looking at winning the league tournament. We would really like to win the league and I think we have a really good chance of it.”
Washington will be at Nelsonville-York on Saturday.
