Miami Trace wins 3rd straight McDonald’s Invitational

Miami Trace High School held its annual wrestling invitational, sponsored by McDonald’s, Saturday, Jan. 20.

Student-athletes representing 20 high schools were on hand to compete for the title.

Miami Trace won the event for the third year in a row, scoring 258.5 team points.

The battle for second place was close between three teams — Oakwood, 166.5, Shawnee, 164 and Tecumseh, 162.

Former South Central Ohio League opponent London was fifth with 153.5 points.

Three additional Frontier Athletic Conference teams competed, with Chillicothe placing ninth (109.5), Hillsboro taking 12th (80) and McClain finishing 14th (46).

Miami Trace had four weight class champions — Lyric Dickerson, 120; Will Enochs, 126; Landon St. Clair (144) and Asher LeBeau (150).

Miami Trace’s Conor Harrison was second at 190 pounds, Brice Perkins was third at 138, Tyler Stevens was third at 165, Walker Glispie was fourth at 175, Garrett Carson was fourth at 157 and Spencer Smith was fifth at 132 pounds.

Cannan Smith of Chillicothe won at 132, Gary Reno of Hillsboro won the 175-pound weight class, Wesley Scott of Chillicothe won at 190 pounds and London’s Chase Payne won at 215.

For McClain, Dalton Rowland was fourth at 132, Carlos Gonzalez was sixth at 144 and Justin Legge was fifth at 215.

Also for Hillsboro, Mathias Hostetler was fourth at 165 and Ian Lawson was sixth at 285.

Also for Chillicothe, Evan Lake was second at 175 pounds and Zach Janes was third at 215.

Dickerson began his run with a pin of Jourdan Enman of Zane Trace in :10.

In his second match, Dickerson pinned Luke Bayless of Tecumseh in 1:29.

In his third match, Dickerson won a 7-3 decision over Carder Napper of London.

In the championship match, Dickerson pinned Elijah McKenzie of Sidney in 2:30.

Enochs went 4-0 at the McDonald’s tournament.

He began with a pin of Avery Meade of Greenville in 3:53.

Next up was Julian Ward of London. Enochs got the pin in :29.

In his penultimate match, Enochs pinned Michael Gibson of Unioto in 5:40.

In the championship match, Enochs won an 8-6 decision over Farell Hall of Tecumseh.

St. Clair went 5-0 at the tournament.

He began with an 18-2 technical fall of Ethan Christian of Shawnee.

In his second match, St. Clair pinned Tyler Speakman of Chillicothe in 1:29.

St. Clair pinned Allen Boyle of Tecumseh in :54.

In his fourth match, St. Clair pinned Layden Wion of Greenville in :33.

In the championship match, St. Clair recorded a 14-2 major decision over Clayton Skaggs of London.

LeBeau went 5-0 in his championship run at 150 pounds.

He began with a pin in :19 of Anthony Neil of Shawnee.

LeBeau pinned Devon Hammond of London in 1:33.

Next for LeBeau, it was a tech fall (16-1) over Ralex Winals of Sidney.

LeBeau pinned Zavier May of Bellefontaine in 3:06 and in the championship bout, it was LeBeau pinning Samuel Keyes of Oakwood in 1:36.

Harrison won his first match at 190 pounds, pinning Braylon Fisher of Sidney in 1:47.

Harrison pinned Braylon Ernst of London in 1:25.

He then pinned Caiden Eckstein of Oakwood in 1:05.

Harrison won a 10-6 decision over Daquanne Parks of London.

Harrison lost in the championship match to Wesley Scott of Chillicothe, an 11-1 major decision.

Brice Perkins began his tournament with a pin of McClain’s Jacob Mick in :42.

Perkins next faced Brady Sexton of Zane Trace and won by pin in 1:33.

Perkins won a 10-0 major decision against Bradley Bush of Greenville.

Perkins lost a 5-3 decision to Garrett Meador of Oakwood.

Perkins won his match for third place, pinning Zane Tevis of Bellefontaine in 5:55.

Tyler Stevens (165 pounds) began the tournament with a pin of Scott Poling of Zane Trace in :57.

Stevens’ next opponent was Noah Torsell of Bellefontaine. Stevens won by pin in 1:09.

Stevens earned a 16-0 technical fall over Mitchell Humphreys of Shawnee in his third match.

In his fourth match, Stevens was pinned by Joel Hancock of Wyoming in :59.

Stevens bounced back with a pin of Mathias Hostetler of Hillsboro to finish in third place.

Walker Glispie at 175 pounds began the tournament with a pin of Quentin Degarmo of Unioto in :41.

Glispie pinned Josh Hamilton of Roger Bacon in 1:43.

The next match for Glispie was a 1-0 decision over Dominic Baker of Oakwood.

Glispie’s next two matches were defaulted.

Garrett Carson at 157 pounds began with a pin of Unioto’s Luke Howard in :52.

Carson pinned Kody Goolsby of Oakwood in 1:47.

Carson then recorded a 22-3 technical fall over Josh Atkins of Shawnee.

Carson lost in his next match, a 20-5 technical fall to Ivan Spencer of Sidney.

Spencer went on to win the 157-pound weight class.

Carson was pinned by Dorien Fredericks of Wyoming in 2:48, placing fourth.

Spencer Smith won his first match by a 12-0 major decision over Ricky Smiley of Bellefontaine.

Smith then had a pin of Beckett Ditello of London in 1:39.

Smith lost a 9-0 major decision to Cade O’Banion of Tecumseh.

Smith won his next match, 4-0 over Juan Gutierrez of Greenville.

Smith won the match for fifth place, defeating Wesley Morris of Bellefontaine by a 16-0 technical fall.

At 285, Miami Trace’s Josh McGraw began with a pin of Bradley McCravy of Hillsboro in 2:33.

McGraw next pinned Carson Noel of Taylor in :42.

In his third match, McGraw was pinned by Connor Bledsoe of Tecumseh in 3:50.

McGraw’s tournament ended with a pin by Ian Lawson of Hillsboro in 4:51.

Luke Bennett also competed at 285 for the Panthers.

He was pinned in his first match by J.T. Jenkins of Zane Trace in 1:52.

Bennett was pinned by Eli Biddle of Sidney in :40.

Bennett then pinned Brody Howard of London in 4:22.

John Queen competed for Miami Trace in the 215-pound weight class.

He lost in the first round to Anthony Guiterrez of Greenville by pin in 1:21.

Queen lost an 8-5 decision to Zach Janes of Chillicothe.

Queen pinned Elliott Thompson of Batavia in 1:40.

Miami Trace had three wrestlers at 150 pounds.

In addition to the above-mentioned Asher LeBeau, his brother, Landon competed, as did Angelo Friel.

Landon LeBeau lost his first match by pin to Zavier May of Bellefontaine in :39.

Friel lost his opening match by pin to William Bush of Greenville in :40.

LeBeau was pinned in his second match by Mike Owes of Unioto in 3:40.

Friel was pinned by Evan Ballard of Shawnee in :55.

LeBeau lost to Justin Roseberry of Shawnee by pin in 3:43.

Friel won his next match by pin over Cole Rapp of McClain in 3:20.

Kyan Sizemore of Miami Trace competed at 138 pounds.

He lost his first match to Cade Howard of Chillicothe by pin in :35.

Sizemore was pinned by Garrett Meador of Oakwood in :14.

Jacob Rheinscheld of Miami Trace competed at 132 pounds.

He lost his first match to Dalton Rowland of McClain by 18-6 major decision.

Rheinscheld won a 7-5 decision over Logan Stover of Shawnee.

Rheinscheld then pinned Oliver Dwertman-Phillips in 1:58.

He then lost by pin in 2:30 to Wesley Morris of Bellefontaine.

Miami Trace will wrestle at Mechanicsburg Wednesday, Jan. 24.
