Blue Lions, Panthers each win Sectional wrestling titles; many advancing to the District tournament from both teams

GALLIPOLIS — Saturday, Feb. 24 will long be remembered in the annuals of high school wrestling in Fayette County.

Miami Trace has had a great deal of success in the Division II Sectional wrestling tournaments over the decades. The Panthers hosted the Sectional previously for many years.

On Saturday, Fayette County was represented extremely well with not one, but two Sectional championships won by the local teams.

There were 19 Division II teams and the Miami Trace Panthers won the Sectional referred to as Gallia Academy 1.

The Panthers scored 187.5 team points, holding off a strong Logan Elm team that was second with 181 points.

There were nine teams in the Sectional the Panthers won.

The other Sectional was Gallia Academy 2 and that title was won by the Washington Blue Lions.

The Blue Lions scored 211.5 team points to 187.5 for second place New Lexington.

Also from the Frontier Athletic Conference, Hillsboro was seventh in the No. 1 Sectional with 81 points and in the No. 2 Sectional, Chillicothe was fifth with 88 points, McClain was seventh with 64 points and Jackson was eighth out of 10 teams with 60 points.
