WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE — A fire broke out around 6:30 p.m. on Monday at 908 John St., a rental house owned by James Kirkpatrick.
The Washington Fire Department responded, and the Bloomingburg Fire Department came for mutual aid. The Fayette County EMS also responded. All the occupants were safely out of the residence.
After the initial fire was extinguished, firefighter N. Laytart went in to rescue the family dog, who was brought out safely. Firefighter Elrich rescued the family guinea pig. Two turtles, a cat and kitten were also saved by firefighters.
The Red Cross was contacted on behalf of the family. The fire is under investigation, according to the fire department.
