Washington tennis falls to Hillsboro, then notches first win since ‘22 season, 5-0 at Jackson

The Washington High School tennis team opened Frontier Athletic Conference play with a home match against Hillsboro on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Hillsboro won the match, four courts to one.

At first singles, Cambry Brown lost to Hillsboro’s Jenna Hart, 6-2, 3-6, 5-10 (a 10-point tiebreaker for the third set).

Jillian Frederick lost to Hillsboro’s Adalyn Gaines at second singles, 2-6, 3-6.

Ady Bartruff fell to Hillsboro’s Natalie Tharp at third singles, 3-6, 3-6.

Washington won the first doubles court, with Kate Bailey and Gretchen Reed defeating Elizabeth Sowders and Taylor-Ann Scruggs, 6-1, 6-1.

Washington’s Kendelle Woods and Mary Denen lost at second doubles to Ciara Woods and Allison Hendrix, 3-6, 2-6.

On Thursday, Aug. 15, Washington visited Jackson and won that match, 5-0.

It was the first win for the program since the 2022 season.

Cambry Brown won the first singles match, 6-4, 5-7, 10-5 (with a 10-point tiebreaker instead of a full third set).

At second singles, Jillian Frederick beat Lacey Houser, 6-1, 6-1.

Ady Bartruff won at third singles, 7-5, 6-1 over Kenzie Collins.

Kate Bailey and Gretchen Reed defeated Hannah Fortner and Mckenzey Coyan at first doubles, 6-0, 6-3.

Kendelle Woods and Sam Dallmayer teamed at second doubles and beat Jackson’s Callie Newkirk and Emma Butts, 6-2, 6-2.

Washington hosted Teays Valley Monday, Aug. 19 and was scheduled to play at Circleville Wednesday, Aug. 21 and at Chillicothe Thursday, Aug. 22.

Washington is scheduled to host Miami Trace Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 4:30 p.m.
