Lady Lion tennis defeats Lady Panthers

On a very hot Tuesday, Aug. 27, with temperatures soaring into the mid-90s, the Washington High School tennis team hosted the team from Miami Trace High School in a Frontier Athletic Conference match.

Washington won the match, four courts to one.

The match was moved back to start at 5:30 p.m. due to the extreme heat.

At first singles, Washington’s Cambry Brown defeated Lucia Wilson, 6-1, 6-0.

Miami Trace’s Ava Shull won at second singles over Jillian Frederick, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 (third set was a tiebreaker).

Washington’s Kate Bailey defeated Kielyn Daughtery at third singles, 6-0, 6-2.

At first doubles, Washington’s Ady Bartruff and Gretchen Reed beat Lily Waddle and Takyia Yahn, 6-4, 6-4.

Kendelle Woods and Sam Dallmayer of Washington won their second doubles match against Abbie Steele and Emma Hagler, 6-2, 6-2.

In one exhibition match, Miami Trace’s Bailey Miller and Baylee Woodrow beat Rilee Langley and Mary Denen, 8-1.

Miami Trace’s match at Waverly, scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 28, was cancelled due to excessive heat.
