Alzheimer’s Assoc. hosts free September program in WCH

The Alzheimer’s Association Central Ohio Chapter is hosting several in-person programs in September, including Washington Court House. These programs are free to the community and will be offered near you:

The Empowered Caregiver: Building Foundations of Caregiving

Wednesday, Sept. 18, 10-11 a.m.

St. Catherine’s Manor, 250 South Glenn Ave., Washington Court House

Understanding the key aspects of caregiving can help to ensure the delivery of person-centered care while managing your own emotional and physical well being. Learn how dementia changes relationships over time, the benefit of person-centered care approaches, how to create a supportive care team and steps to identify and manage caregiver stress.

“These programs can build a sense of community for anyone facing Alzheimer’s or other dementia,” said Pam Myers, senior director, programs for the Alzheimer’s Association Central Ohio and Northwest Ohio Chapters. “There are thousands of Ohio families facing this disease, whether they are suffering from impairment, have received a diagnosis or are caring for someone who has. We are here to offer free support and resources to anyone who needs it, regardless of where they are in their journey.”

Nearly seven million Americans aged 65 and older have Alzheimer’s dementia, including 236,200 in Ohio. A total of 414,000 Ohio caregivers provide 624 million hours of unpaid care each year, valued at more than $11.4 billion.
